We did it, folks.

Yesterday, I signed the American Rescue Plan into law. Just like Vice President Harris and I promised on the campaign trail, help is on the way for you and your family -- and soon, our country will be on the road to recovery.

I'm proud of what's in the American Rescue Plan and how it will help care for our children and our families.

• Providing $1,400 direct payments to 85% of American households -- the single largest direct payment to date. A typical middle-class family of four will receive $5,600 in direct checks, while households making $25,000 or less will boost their after-tax income by 20 percent. That's the difference between paying or missing a payment on your mortgage or your health insurance, or keeping your kid in college. It will make a big difference in so many lives across this country.

• Administering the COVID-19 vaccine at an accelerated pace. We've ordered enough doses of the vaccine for every American adult by May 31, and now we have the resources to get those shots in arms nationwide.

• Our plan also invests in a massive expansion of testing -- just part of how we're going to get our nation's kids back at school and parents back to work safely.

• Extending unemployment insurance for around 11 million Americans who would otherwise have started losing benefits next week -- and protecting them from surprise tax bills.

• Providing tens of billions of dollars in rental and homeowners assistance that will benefit lower-income, disproportionately Black and Brown, renters and homeowners to help keep roofs over their heads.

• Lifting 11 million people out of poverty and cutting child poverty in half, including a historic expansion of the child tax credit that will benefit the families of more than 66 million kids across our country.

• Addressing the growing hunger crisis facing 29 million Americans -- and as many as 12 million children -- by asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand and extend nutrition assistance programs to make sure no kid goes hungry.

• Investing $39 billion to reduce child care costs and increase the pay and benefits of child care workers -- the most significant child care investment since World War II.

The bottom line is: This legislation gives the backbone of this country -- the middle class -- a fighting chance. We're delivering real, tangible results for you and your family.
