Friend -- Democrats in Congress just passed the American Rescue Plan. Now, it goes to President Biden's desk for his signature.
You should be proud: The American Rescue Plan is going to make a real difference in folks' lives, and it's all because of you -- the people who rallied behind our party and leant your time, your hard-earned money, and your voice for a better future. Thank you.
But you know what's despicable? Not a single Republican voted for the bill. Not one. Every single Republican in Congress voted against:
- $1,400 checks for most Americans and extended unemployment benefits;
- Increased COVID testing to help kids get back to school safely;
- Major investments in COVID vaccine production and distribution to get shots in arms;
- Lifting 11 million people out of poverty and cutting child poverty in half;
- Housing, hunger, and child care relief to keep roofs over heads, families fed, and to get parents back to work;
- And so, so much more.
When Democrats are in power, we fight for people -- for your health care, for your economic well-being, and for your safety. A typical family of four making $100,000 will receive $5,600 in direct checks thanks to the American Rescue Plan, and lower-income households will see their average income rise by 20 percent.
And Republicans voted against all that. Today, we were reminded why electing Democrats matters. And today, especially, we were reminded why it's urgent we get to work now to ensure we can expand and protect our majorities in elections to come.
