I hope you'll give me a chance to explain why the voter suppression bills in Texas -- S.B. 7 and H.B. 6 -- are so dangerous and how this team can fight back. Republicans are trying to do exactly what they did in Georgia in my home state of Texas: Bring Jim Crow-style voter suppression to this state.

This legislation even goes so far as allowing partisan poll watchers to film voters as they cast a ballot. This is Jim Crow-style voter suppression.

These voter suppression bills being introduced in Texas -- and quite frankly nationwide -- are nothing more than a power grab by a party that's losing its grip. And they cannot and will not go unanswered.

Democrats need to be as bold at expanding and protecting voting rights as Republicans have been at trying to dismantle them. That means making sure legislation like the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act can pass in Congress and that we continue to elect Democrats prepared to fight for the right to vote at the local and state levels -- all of that won't be possible without a strong DNC.

Between now and 2024, we're going to continue to see a whole new spate of anti-voter legislation pushed forward by the GOP.
