Today marks my last day as chair of the DNC. It's been an honor to lead our party these past four years, and I'm grateful to you and every other Democrat who trusted me with this responsibility. I hope I've made you proud.
We've accomplished so much in these past few months that at times, it's difficult to remember just where we started. When I began my tenure as chair, Democrats had just lost the White House. We had no majorities in the House or Senate. And we had little power on the state and local level.
We knew that we had to rebuild and it wouldn't be easy. Investment and trust in the DNC was critically low. But grassroots supporters like you stuck it out.
Together, we built back our party's infrastructure. We trained organizers, modernized our data, and staffed a War Room dedicated to holding Trump accountable. It paid off quickly -- and we won back the House and flipped two Senate seats in Arizona and Nevada in 2018.
By the time the presidential primary began in 2019, the Democratic Party was back. A record-breaking number of candidates sought out our party's nomination. We hosted countless debates, and Democratic voters ultimately chose Joe Biden as our party's nominee.
To be sure, the greatest challenge we faced as a party these past four years was defeating Donald Trump. It was a task that at times seemed impossible, but the groundwork laid by the DNC, and our integration with Biden for President in the general election, ultimately led us to success.
We won -- and that's thanks to the millions of Democrats like you who refused to give in even when it felt like we were down. Many said Trump's financial advantage was insurmountable, but we faced him head on. With contributions of $10 and $25 at a time, we outraised him -- and then we beat him. As if that monumental effort wasn't enough, this team didn't let up -- we kept up the fight in Georgia after November, and just a few weeks ago, we flipped both Georgia Senate seats.
You were with me every step of the way, so I'm asking once more on my way out: Will you make a $7 investment in the DNC today? The progress we've made in these past four years is a direct result of your early, consistent support. We have a huge opportunity to build on our success -- our future depends on people like you recommitting to that hard work.
Thanks for everything.
In unity,
Tom
