We use soy, the most sustainable plant protein, which contributes 50% less CO2 than whey protein and 25% less than a pea and rice protein combination. Plus, soy is a great source of protein and tastes delicious!

Soy is a nitrogen-fixing crop, meaning it can fix nitrogen from the atmosphere as fertilizer for the plant. The outcome is less fertilizer needed to grow soy and healthier soil!
Soy produces the most usable protein per acre out of all plant and animal proteins in western agriculture (356 pounds of usable protein / acre, compared to rice's 265 pounds / acre and beef's 20 pounds / acre).
Other than using sustainable practices in our formulas, we focus on creating recyclable packaging to lower our impact. Our opaque HDPE plastic bottles, which help protect the nutritional quality of Soylent, are more efficiently recycled than opaque PET plastic. They can also be recycled as-is, no need to remove the labels!
