I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to our top supporters. My name is Maju and I’m the Executive Director of the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

I have the honor and responsibility to make sure the Inauguration ceremonies and events happening in a few short weeks reflect and empower the 155 million Americans who made their voices heard in November -- and mark the peaceful transfer of power and endurance of the American project.

The historic nature of this inauguration is not lost on me. Like many, my phone rang non-stop when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were declared victorious, by my Indian Aunties and Uncles, in awe that we would finally have an Indian and African American woman in the White House.

Which is why my team and I are doing everything we can to safely honor the historic nature of this inauguration, and to acknowledge these difficult times, by making programming that inspires service across the country, honors those we have lost this year, and turns the spotlight to local heroes and communities -- not just Washington, D.C.

But this ambitious programming takes resources and funding, and as a nonprofit organization we have to come up with a lot of it ourselves.

As always, grassroots donors are the center of our fundraising strategy, and we are relying on online donors to chip in to own pieces of the events and this history, just as they had on the campaign that elected Joe and Kamala to begin with.

We’re falling a little behind on our weekly fundraising goal, which is all right and to be expected right around the holidays, but I’m hoping that by reaching out to our top supporters, a few of you can chip in right now and help us get to 100% before tonight ends:

92% of the way to our weekly fundraising goal

It’s a tough time, and not everyone can donate, which I understand. But if just 1% of people reading this email chip in what they can afford, $25 or even $50, I am confident we will not only close this 8% gap, but we’ll also get a huge head start on our goal for next week!

Please, can you be one of those grassroots sponsors that owns either your first, or another, piece of the 2021 Inauguration by donating today?

If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Your donation, whatever the amount may be, will be the reason that we can offer more events for people to tune into for free, and that we can make this inauguration the most highly attended one in history.

By chipping in you are covering those who maybe want to donate but can’t afford to. And if you are in a position where you cannot chip in right now, I hope you know that your fellow supporters are stepping up to the plate and we are determined to make this inauguration special and inclusive to all, no donation necessary.

So thank you again, for all you do and for however you choose to be involved. And Happy New Year and (almost) new administration!

Maju Varghese
Executive Director
Presidential Inaugural Committee 2021
